Investigation of structural distress, cracking, settlement, impact damage, storm damage, construction deficiencies, and partial failures.
When a structure cracks, settles, or is damaged, the first questions are practical: is it safe, what caused it, and what should be done? We investigate structural distress and damage methodically — documenting conditions, analyzing probable causes, and recommending repairs — and we present findings clearly enough to support decisions by owners, insurers, and other professionals.
Initial safety assessments are typically the most time-sensitive part of an investigation, and we prioritize them accordingly. Contact us with the location and a description of the damage and we'll discuss realistic timing.
Our role is to determine, to the extent the evidence allows, what happened and why from an engineering standpoint. Questions of legal responsibility belong to others; not every investigation supports a definitive causation opinion, and our reports say so when that's the case.
Often yes, and it's usually efficient — the engineer who diagnosed the cause designs a repair that addresses it. Where independence between investigation and repair is preferred, we can limit our role accordingly.
Forensic opinions are based on the conditions observed, the information available, and the analysis performed for the specific engagement. Investigations address engineering causation; determinations of legal responsibility are outside the scope of engineering services.
